Baby Skunks!

This spring we were surprised to find that a skunk had made her den in our backyard and she had brought with her a litter of four or five babies. After some research and calling around to some experts, it turns out baby skunks are pretty harmless. They’re surprisingly hard to startle, relatively blind, pretty bad at spraying, and really curious. Baby skunks also don’t know they’re supposed to be nocturnal until they’re a few months old. So while mom is sleeping during the day, the babies go exploring. I captured a few pictures while they wandered our yard.

  1. The advantages of getting up at 4:30 am to get ready for a 7 am indoor swim! Early morning workouts were never my preference, but in COVID it works well to get a lane. I also took a look at the Cougar Blog, the skunks, HA and getting away from the crowd. Left a few comments. I would love to share some perspective on Maui sometime with you – it is a special place, despite the crowds. Did you know it used to be called the Sandwich Islands in the mid-late 1800’s? I never knew that.

Take care, and thanks for your amazing photos.
